Batwara 1947 box office collection day 8: Batwara 1947 has crashed at the box office as it managed to collect only Rs 75 lakh at the domestic box office on its second Friday. The film earned only Rs 50 lakh in the overseas market. The Sunny Deol-starrer is yet to cross the Rs 50 crore mark, with its current worldwide gross standing at Rs 49.02 crore.

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the Rajkumar Santoshi-directorial earned Rs 75 lakh in India across 3,211 shows, recording an occupancy of 9%. Batwara 1947 started to lose steam from its fourth day. The film earned Rs 2 crore on its first Monday, followed by Rs 2.25 crore on Tuesday, Rs 1.5 crore on Wednesday and Rs 1.35 crore on Thursday.

On the other hand, Awarapan 2, which released alongside the Sunny Deol-starrer on August 14, has earned Rs 169 crore worldwide in eight days. The film added Rs 5.5 crore on Friday, emerging as one of Emraan Hashmi’s biggest hits.

Interestingly, when the first part of Awarapan released in 2007, it tanked at the box office. Over the years, however, the film gained a cult following, eventually inspiring the makers to return with a sequel, which has now become a massive box office success.

Batwara 1947 follows the story of the partition of India and Pakistan and also stars Preity Zinta and Shabana Azmi in lead roles. The film marks Zinta’s return to the big screen after an eight-year gap. However, none of these factors seem to have worked in the film’s favour with audiences. The film is produced by Aamir Khan and was heavily promoted across India.

Sunny Deol enjoyed a strong run at the box office with Gadar 2 in 2023, followed by Border 2 this year. In between, he also starred in Jaat and Ikka. While Jaat earned Rs 118.85 crore in its lifetime, Ikka was released directly on Netflix. Both receiving mixed reviews.

It seems like Batwara 1947 is now on its last leg as the release of Yash-starrer Toxic on August 28 might push it out of the theatres.
