The dismissal came in the sixth over, with West Zone losing their first wicket at 23. Mushtaq completed a wicket maiden and finished the spell with impressive figures of 3-2-5-1.
The wicket quickly became one of the talking points of the opening day, with the delivery being described as a "peach" by fans and cricket followers.
Shaw Fails to Make Duleep Trophy Return Count
The early dismissal will be a frustrating one for Shaw, who was expected to make an impact for a strong West Zone side. He is part of a line-up led by Ruturaj Gaikwad and featuring players such as Musheer Khan and Sarfaraz Khan.
For Shaw, the Duleep Trophy provides another opportunity to make a statement in red-ball cricket. The opener has been trying to revive his career after inconsistent performances in recent seasons.
Shaw has already experienced success in the Duleep Trophy earlier in his career. He scored a century on his Duleep Trophy debut, but his latest campaign has begun in very different fashion.
North Zone Take Early Control
North Zone were bowled out for 251 after choosing to bat first. Ayush Badoni scored 51, while Qamran Iqbal made 26 and Ayush Doseja remained unbeaten on 29.
West Zone were 23/1 after Shaw's dismissal, with Harvik Desai and Musheer Khan at the crease. Shaw's wicket gave North Zone an early advantage as West Zone began their reply.
With three more days of the four-day quarter-final remaining, Shaw will now have to wait for his next opportunity to make an impact in the tournament.
