Mumbai's seven reservoirs collectively held 95.53 per cent of their useful storage capacity at 6 am on Monday, up from 95.22 per cent a day earlier, according to the Hydraulic Engineer's Department. Mumbai: The total water stock in the seven reservoirs supplying water to Mumbai has increased to 95.53 per cent as of 6 am on Monday, up from 95.22 per cent recorded a day earlier, providing further relief amid the ongoing monsoon season.

According to data from the Hydraulic Engineer's Department, the seven lakes collectively hold 13,82,624 million litres (ML) of water against their total useful storage capacity of 14,47,363 ML.

Details On Lake Levels

Among the major reservoirs, Modak Sagar continues to remain at 100 per cent of its useful storage capacity, holding 1,28,925 ML of water. Upper Vaitarna recorded 89.32 per cent, with a stock of 2,02,796 ML. The reservoirs also witnessed varying rainfall in their catchment areas over the past 24 hours. Upper Vaitarna, Modak Sagar and Middle Vaitarna each received 12 mm of rainfall.

Minor changes in water levels were recorded across some reservoirs. Middle Vaitarna registered a rise of 0.25 metres, while Tulsi recorded a marginal decline of 0.02 metres. Meanwhile, the Bhandup Complex recorded 5 mm of rainfall on Monday, taking its cumulative seasonal rainfall total to 2,694 mm. Several key reservoirs, including Modak Sagar, Tansa, Vehar and Tulsi, continue to remain in overflow after reaching their respective overflow levels earlier in the monsoon season.

With the overall water stock now above 95 per cent, Mumbai's reservoirs remain in a strong position to meet the city's water requirements in the coming months. The sustained rise in storage levels has also strengthened the city's water security following consistent monsoon rainfall across the catchment areas.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) monitors the water levels and rainfall in the seven lakes supplying water to Mumbai on a daily basis. The reservoirs include Tansa, Modak Sagar, Middle Vaitarna, Upper Vaitarna, Bhatsa, Vehar and Tulsi.
