Mumbai, Maharashtra: ‘Bol Bam’ chants echoed across Mumbai on Sunday as hundreds of Shiva devotees joined a Kanwar Yatra from Antop Hill to the Babulnath Temple in South Mumbai. Chanting ‘Bol Bam’ and Har Har Mahadev along the way, the devotees carried holy water to offer during the Jalabhishek of Lord Shiva in the sacred month of Sawan.

The annual yatra brought hundreds of devotees together as they walked towards the historic Babulnath Temple, carrying the holy water with the belief that offering it to Lord Shiva during Sawan brings blessings and fulfils their prayers.

A Kanwariya said the group began its journey from Antop Hill and was headed towards Babulnath Dham to perform Jalabhishek of Lord Shiva. “Every year, all of us Kanwariyas go to Babulnath Dham in the same way and pray that the wishes of every Kanwariya are fulfilled,” he said.

He said devotees of all age groups, including children, adults, elderly people and women, participate in the yatra and chant the name of Lord Shiva throughout the journey. “During the sacred month of Sawan, while making efforts and working hard, chanting slogans of Baba, they reach there to perform Jalabhishek of Lord Shiva,” the devotee said.

‘Seven Years Of The Yatra From Antop Hill’

Another Kanwariya said the yatra has been organised from Motilal Nehru Nagar in Antop Hill for the past seven years. “For the last seven years, our Kanwar Yatra has been starting from Motilal Nehru Nagar in Antop Hill. From here, it reaches Babulnath Temple,” he said.

According to the devotee, participants walk to the temple and offer water to Lord Shiva with devotion while seeking his blessings. He highlighted the participation of children and women in the yatra, saying their enthusiasm keeps the procession moving despite the long walk.

“Look at these children and women, they are walking from there on foot. That is their strength. No one gets tired,” he said. He added that the faith of devotees gives them the energy to continue the journey.

“There is so much power in Baba’s name that they are charged with energy and continue walking ahead without getting tired,” he said.

The Kanwar Yatra is being held as devotees observe Sawan and undertake religious journeys to temples dedicated to Lord Shiva across the country.
