Mumbai, August 22, 2026: Just days after applications opened, 4,510 candidates have applied for just 50 seats. With a Rs 61,500 monthly stipend and a 12-month stint in civic administration, the programme has drawn highly qualified talent across law, medicine, engineering, commerce, science and the arts, including LLB, LLM, MBBS, BA, MA, MSc, MCom, BE and BTech graduates.

Gen Z Fellowship Programme

The BJP-led Mahayuti-run BMC has launched a ‘Gen Z Fellowship Programme’ to bring young professionals into civic administration. Modelled on Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Fellowship Programme, the initiative offers hands-on exposure to policymaking, project planning and governance, with fellows working alongside senior civic officials.

Applications opened on August 19, and within days, 4,510 candidates had registered. Of these, around 2,500 submitted applications and 530 paid the fee. Among fee-paying applicants, BCom graduates lead with 107, followed by 81 BE/BTech, 54 BSc, six BA and five LLB graduates, while LLM and MBBS have one applicant each.

Eligibility Criteria

With applications open until August 31, the numbers are expected to climb further, said an official. The pool already spans law, medicine, engineering, management, commerce, science, design and technology.

The BMC has laid down 21 eligibility criteria: applicants must be graduates with at least 60% marks, be proficient in Marathi, have working knowledge of Hindi and English, possess computer skills and have at least one year of full-time work experience.

Relevant internships, apprenticeships and articleships count as experience, while those who have previously completed the BMC or Chief Minister’s Fellowship are not eligible.
