On Thursday, the Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (Tasmac) issued a notice across its network of shops, directing them to stop the sale of 11 liquor variants manufactured by Enrica Enterprises Pvt. Ltd following an FSSAI inspection that flagged the presence of natural identical and artificial flavouring substances in the products.

However, the very next day, on Friday, a notice issued by R. Gajalakshmi, Commissioner of Prohibition and Excise, stated that the earlier order had been revoked.

A senior official from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) said the company had appealed against the prohibition order and assured the authorities that it would comply with the rules. Following this, the prohibition was revoked, and an improvement notice was issued to the company. “We have given them 30 days’ notice. If they fail to comply, we can take further action,” the official said.

The FSSAI, in a letter dated August 11, said that artificial flavouring substance was found and ordered that sales had to be stopped immediately. The variants include VSOP Exshaw Gold Brandy, Louis Vernant XO Blended Premium Brandy, McDowells VSOP Brandy, No.1 McDowells Fine Brandy, Mensclub Deluxe Brandy, Honey Bee Fine Brandy, Enrica VSOP Select Brandy, Enrica Platinum Reserve XO Brandy, Enrica Premium French Brandy, Veeran Special Brandy, Enrica Old Indie Classic Dark Rum.
