Four fall ill after eating Datura leaf curry in Kakinada district

Four persons, including three women belonging to the same family, were hospitalised after they ate curry mixed with Datura leaves in Yerrampalem village of Gandepalli mandal in Kakinada district.
The incident came to light after they were admitted to the Government General Hospital (GGH) in Kakinada city on Tuesday.
On Monday, Hyderabad-based software engineer, Bikkina Veerabbu, came to his in-laws house to attend a local deity’s festival. Mr. Veerabbu's mother-in-law served lunch along with a curry mixed with Datura leaves which she had prepared based on information sourced online, reportedly believing the curry had health benefits.
Kakinada District Medical and Health Officer J. Narasimha Naik told : "The family members consumed the curry mixed with Datura leaves after sourcing the details online. Their health condition on Tuesday is said to be out of danger."
Bikkina Veerabbu and his wife Ganga Bhavani, Veerabbu's mother-in-law Ms. Veeralakshmi and their relative, Ms. Jayalakshmi, fell unconscious after eating the curry on Monday.
