Fire at furniture godown near Plamoodu in Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram

A fire broke out at a furniture godown near Plamood junction in Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday morning (August 16, 2026). Employees staying in the staff quarters of a restaurant nearby noticed fumes coming out of the godown and alerted the Fire and Rescue Services personnel.
Four fire engine units were deployed to put out the fire that broke out at the godown located along the Pattom-Marappalam road. Thick smoke was seen billowing out from the establishment that stored mattresses, cushions, rexine and other flammable wooden products. Although a good part of the materials stored in the godown were reduced to ashes, the fire force managed to control the fire from spreading to the adjacent buildings.
Meanwhile, Joy, the owner of the shop, told mediapersons that he suspected sabotage by his business rivals behind the blaze. He said that he had filed a complaint with the Chief Minister following similar fires in the past.
