Apple is reportedly preparing to refresh its iMac lineup later this year, with the updated all-in-one desktop expected to get the company’s next-generation M6 chip along with new colour options. The information comes from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who says the new iMac models are now close to launch.
The upcoming machine is expected to remain a 24-inch iMac, continuing the design Apple introduced with the M1-powered model in 2021. The current iMac was updated with the M4 chip in October 2024, meaning the M6 model could mark the first major update to the lineup in two years.
While the processor is expected to be the main hardware upgrade, Apple is also reportedly planning some new colour options. However, the exact colours have not been revealed yet. The current iMac is available in seven colours, including green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, blue and silver.
The new model is not expected to bring a major redesign. Reports suggest Apple will retain the existing 24-inch display and overall design, making this more of a chip upgrade than a visual overhaul. This could disappoint users waiting for a larger iMac or a more significant redesign.
Apple is reportedly working on a 24-inch iMac with an OLED display, but that model is still several years away. This means the upcoming M6 iMac could serve as an interim update before Apple eventually makes bigger changes to its all-in-one desktop.
