Bhiwandi: A 65-year-old autorickshaw driver died after he was allegedly assaulted by a group of youths in Samadnagar on Thane Road in Bhiwandi, after he confronted them for allegedly passing inappropriate comments at passers-by.

Deceased Identified As Samadnagar Resident Jameel Ahmed Momin

The deceased has been identified as Jameel Ahmed Momin, 65, a resident of the Samadnagar area. A CCTV video purportedly showing the incident has also surfaced on social media and is being widely circulated.

According to information available, Momin was passing through Samadnagar when he noticed a group of youths allegedly standing by the roadside and passing comments at people travelling through the area. He reportedly approached them and questioned their behaviour.

What began as an argument soon escalated into a physical altercation. Police said Momin was allegedly assaulted by some of the youths, leaving him seriously injured.

Momin was rushed to a hospital for treatment following the assault. However, despite medical intervention, he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

Bhiwandi Police Launch Probe Into Death Of Elderly Driver

Following the incident, Bhiwandi City Police reached the spot and initiated an investigation. The deceased's body was sent to IGM Sub-District Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Police have detained two suspects in connection with the incident. Investigators are examining CCTV footage from the area to establish the sequence of events and identify the role of those involved in the assault.
