Severe pest and rodent infestations, fungal-infested vegetables, improper storage and violations of packaging and labelling norms were among the food safety breaches found at sweet and savoury manufacturing and retail establishments across Hyderabad during an enforcement drive by the Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs (TG SAFE) on Tuesday (August 25, 2026).

The inspections resulted in the seizure of 15 tonnes of adulterated and unhygienic food products valued at around ₹30 lakh. A total of 15 specialised enforcement teams comprising Food Safety Officers and police personnel inspected 32 sweet and savoury manufacturing and retail establishments as part of the coordinated operation. Officials also collected 35 food samples for laboratory testing on suspicion of adulteration.

Besides hygiene-related violations, officials found products that did not comply with statutory packaging and labelling requirements. Inspectors also flagged misleading claims and advertisements on food products, raising concerns over both consumer safety and compliance with regulations.

As part of the enforcement action, the licence of M/s Burfi Ghar in Bachupally, Hyderabad, was suspended and its operations were immediately halted following the violations detected at the establishment.

The teams also issued 12 improvement notices and four show-cause notices to establishments found to be violating food safety norms.
