World Senior Citizens Day Celebrated with Enthusiasm in Navi Mumbai

Navi Mumbai :- The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) celebrated World Senior Citizens Day with great enthusiasm at Vishnudas Bhave Auditorium in Vashi. The event witnessed the lively presence of senior citizens and dignitaries alike.

The event was graced by the presence of Airoli MLA Shri Ganesh Naik, Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Kailas Shinde, Additional Commissioner Shri Sunil Pawar, Deputy Commissioner of the Social Development Department Shri Kisanrao Palande, Assistant Commissioner of the Vashi Division Shri Sagar More, President of the Maharashtra Senior Citizens Federation Shri Annasaheb Tekale, and Regional President Shri Suresh Pote, along with other notable guests.

Speaking at the event, MLA Shri Ganesh Naik emphasized that Navi Mumbai is like a family, where the feelings and emotions of senior citizens are deeply respected. He praised the NMMC’s commitment to serving senior citizens with compassion and proposed the establishment of a helpline to enable better communication with seniors. He encouraged them to remain positive and not be disheartened by advancing age.

Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde highlighted that aging is a natural process, but emphasized the importance of maintaining physical health and a stress-free life by incorporating exercise into daily routines. He praised the NMMC’s welfare initiatives for seniors and urged them to share their experiences and ideas with the Corporation, which could help improve the administration. He also encouraged seniors to volunteer time to help students in municipal schools with their development.

Additional Commissioner Shri Sunil Pawar informed the audience about various facilities being offered by the NMMC for senior citizens and called upon seniors to continue supporting the city with their wisdom and experience. In his introductory speech, Deputy Commissioner Shri Kisanrao Palande explained the purpose behind organizing the event.

Shri Annasaheb Tekale, President of the Maharashtra Senior Citizens Federation, expressed his pride in Navi Mumbai being the first municipal corporation to start senior recreational centers and called it one of the most peaceful and beautiful cities in the country. He added that no other city provides as many facilities for senior citizens as Navi Mumbai does.

In honor of World Senior Citizens Day, a variety of competitions such as carrom, chess, bridge, mono-acting, fancy dress, poetry recitation, singing, dancing, storytelling, comedy, telephone and letter writing, and essay competitions were held. The winners were felicitated with cash prizes, mementos, and certificates by the distinguished guests.

Additionally, 13 couples celebrating their golden wedding anniversaries, as well as 131 individuals celebrating their 75th birthdays, were specially honored during the event.

Senior citizens actively participated in various song and dance performances, making the World Senior Citizens Day celebration in Navi Mumbai a truly joyful occasion.
