Mira Bhayander :– In a significant development, the decision-making authority for the 146 Ovala village, located within the 25 Thane Lok Sabha Constituency, has organized a civic awareness program under the auspices of the Sweep (SVEEP) initiative. This initiative, guided by Mr. Shital Deshmukh, the designated election officer, along with the nodal officer and deputy commissioner (Education), Mrs. Varsha Dixit, aims to enlighten the electorate about their voting rights and responsibilities.
The event, hosted at the Abhinav College of Engineering in Goddev village, Bhayandar East, on April 3, 2024, witnessed a warm welcome extended to officials including Dr. Alwin Menzes, Principal of Abhinav Vidyalaya College, Mr. Aniket Manorkar, Additional Commissioner of Bhayandar Municipal Corporation, Mr. Sunil Yadav, Nodal Officer, and Mr. Kailas Shevante, Chief of the Sweep campaign, among others.
Professor Mr. Bhagat emphasized the importance of voter registration and urged students who have attained the age of 18 to enroll themselves in the electoral roll and exercise their franchise. Furthermore, students were briefed on the registration and voting process in English, encouraging them to participate actively in the democratic process.
Mr. Sunil Yadav, the nodal officer for the Sweep campaign, highlighted that as per the directives of the Election Commission of India, voting will take place on May 20, 2024. He urged all students to motivate their families to participate in the electoral process, ensuring maximum voter turnout.
Moreover, Mr. Aniket Manorkar informed that the voter registration process is ongoing until April 3, 2024, and urged students to register online through the State Election Commission’s portal. For those without internet access, he encouraged them to visit nearby Common Service Centers (CFC) to submit their registration forms.
As the program concluded, Dr. Alwin Menzes, Professor Bhagat, and the teaching staff administered an oath to the students, pledging to exercise their voting rights diligently. Mr. Sunil Yadav expressed gratitude for their collaboration in organizing the event.
The active participation of students and faculty from Abhinav Vidyalaya College and Engineering College underscored the importance of civic engagement and electoral participation among the youth. With the voter registration deadline approaching, the campaign aims to empower every eligible citizen to exercise their democratic right effectively.
