Navi Mumbai :- In a significant development, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has unveiled a vaccination drive aimed at administering COVID-19 booster shots to its citizens aged 18 and above. The decision comes in line with the state government’s directives, which advocate the inclusion of the Inovac vaccine as part of the ongoing vaccination program.
The COVID-19 vaccination drive had previously kicked off in April 2023, primarily focusing on the general population. However, given the increased vulnerability of citizens aged 60 and above, who are considered high-risk due to underlying health conditions, the NMMC has now prioritized administering the booster dose, termed “precautionary dose,” to this age group.
Notably, this precautionary dose of the Inovac vaccine represents a crucial step in battling the ongoing pandemic. It is expected to significantly enhance the immunity against the virus, reducing the need for treatments, including injections in healthcare facilities.
This is the first corona preventive dose of its kind, specifically designed to strengthen the body’s ability to fight off infections. By offering this precautionary dose, the NMMC aims to provide a layer of protection to the elderly and those with preexisting health conditions.
To facilitate the distribution of the Inovac vaccine, the NMMC has set up vaccination centers at public hospitals in Vashi, Nerul, and Airoli. The vaccination centers will be open from 9 AM to 5 PM, allowing eligible citizens to receive their booster shots.
It’s important to note that individuals who have received their second dose of Covishield or Covaxin and completed a full six months since their last dose are eligible to receive the precautionary dose. To schedule the administration of the precautionary dose, individuals are required to present proof of their previous vaccine doses.
The Navi Mumbai Municipal Commissioner, Mr. Rajesh Narvekar, has called upon all eligible residents of Mumbai to come forward and take the Inovac vaccine as a precautionary measure. This initiative is not only expected to enhance the resilience of the population against COVID-19 but also contribute to the overall safety and well-being of the community.
As the NMMC rolls out this critical phase of vaccination, Navi Mumbai’s residents have a unique opportunity to further fortify their defenses against the virus, ensuring a safer and healthier future for the city.
