Vasai-Virar :- In a significant move to curb the use of single-use plastics, the Vasai-Virar City Municipal Corporation (VVMC) took action under the leadership of the Municipal Commissioner. Acting on the orders, Additional Municipal Commissioner, Mr. Ajinkya Bagade, and Deputy Commissioner of the Solid Waste Management Department, Dr. Charushila Pandit, initiated a decisive operation within Ward ‘D’.
On the morning of October 23, 2023, at 7:00 AM, Mr. Sukadev Darveshi, Assistant Commissioner of the Solid Waste Management Department, spearheaded the operation at Moonbeam Co-Operative Housing Society, Gala No. 08, Samarth Ramdas Nagar, Navghar East, and Tirupati Trade Center in Navghar, Vasai East. This operation resulted in the seizure of a substantial amount of single-use plastics, weighing a total of 4677 kilograms (more than 4.5 tons) from 3975 Tata Ace and Mahindra Bolero vehicles. The market value of the confiscated plastic is estimated to be INR 7,01,550.
This operation marks the largest single crackdown on single-use plastics by the VVMC, all conducted in a single location. It underscores the municipality’s commitment to reducing plastic pollution and promoting environmental sustainability.
