Navi Mumbai :– In a significant move, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has taken action against unauthorized construction activities in the city. Under the guidance of Dr. Rahul Gethe, the Deputy Commissioner of the Encroachment Department, the NMMC has successfully demolished illegal structures in the Belapur division.
Several commercial establishments and sheds in the vicinity of Sector 15, CBD Belapur, including the Star Night Hotel, Palm Beach Pride Hotel, Bebo Hotel, and six shops, were found to be in violation of municipal regulations. These establishments had encroached upon public spaces, using the marginal areas without proper permissions.
The NMMC had previously issued notices under Sections 53(1) and 55 of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966, urging the owners of these unauthorized structures to rectify the violations by removing the encroachments themselves. Unfortunately, they did not comply with the notices, leading to the NMMC’s intervention.
Under the direct supervision of six officials, including Senior Officers Shri Sashikant Thandel, Shri Ramesh Rathod, Shri Rohit Thakare, and others, a dedicated team comprising eight laborers and additional police personnel was deployed for this operation. This action sends a clear message that the NMMC is committed to maintaining the city’s urban planning standards and preventing unauthorized construction.
Dr. Rahul Gethe, Deputy Commissioner of the Encroachment Department, stated that similar actions would continue to be taken in the future, emphasizing the NMMC’s resolve to enforce anti-encroachment measures more rigorously. This move aims to ensure that the city’s public spaces are protected and preserved in line with the relevant regulations.
