Navi Mumbai :- In a remarkable display of enthusiasm and eco-consciousness, Navimumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) organized the idol immersion of 1082 deities on the concluding day of the Navaratri festival. This grand event was meticulously planned and executed, ensuring that the idols were immersed in an environmentally responsible manner.
During the Navaratri festival, NMMC facilitated the immersion of 916 household and society deities, along with 166 public idols, bringing the total to 1082. Notably, in several areas, the NMMC set up Gabion walls to prevent water pollution and encourage biodiversity conservation in the water bodies where the idols were immersed.
Mr. Rajesh Narvekar, the Commissioner of NMMC, applauded the efforts of the organizers and urged devotees to continue participating in such eco-friendly initiatives. The NMMC ensured the active participation of its officials, staff, and more than 200 volunteers, lifeguards, and firefighters to carry out the idol immersion event smoothly. The event also featured a backup power supply system with generators and promoted clean energy generation.
At all 22 main immersion sites, two separate immersion tanks were provided for the eco-friendly immersion of idols made of clay and other biodegradable materials. Independent immersion vehicles were used for transporting these idols, and designated sites ensured their proper disposal.
To maintain law and order, police were stationed at key locations to ensure the safety of devotees and the successful execution of the immersion process. Thanks to the active cooperation of the public and the commitment to the environment, the idol immersion event was carried out peacefully and efficiently.
The NMMC’s efforts in conducting eco-friendly idol immersion during Navaratri showcase a commitment to preserving the environment while upholding cultural traditions. It is a testament to the growing awareness and responsibility towards maintaining ecological balance during religious celebrations.
