Navi Mumbai :- In observance of the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has organized various events under the directive of the United Nations to raise awareness among citizens about reducing the impact of disasters.
As per the guidelines of the Maharashtra state government, Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation’s Disaster Management Department, along with other key officials, marked this occasion on October 13th at 11 a.m. with a solemn commitment to disaster risk reduction. The event took place at the municipal headquarters’ amphitheater and was attended by officials, employees, and concerned citizens.
The pledge taken by all officials and employees emphasized active participation in various programs aimed at disaster risk reduction, as well as raising awareness within their families and communities to better prepare for potential disasters. The commitment was to gather knowledge on disaster preparedness and actively participate in community-based programs aimed at minimizing the risks associated with disasters.
While no specific disasters were mentioned, the importance of being prepared for any potential emergency was emphasized. It was underlined that immediate action and preparedness are crucial to dealing with disasters effectively.
Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation’s Additional Commissioner, Shri M. Sujata Dhole, and Deputy Commissioner, Shri Vijaykumar Mhasal, were among those who actively participated in the commitment ceremony. The ceremony stressed the significance of both natural and man-made disaster preparedness and highlighted the importance of social security in addition to individual security.
Furthermore, examples of various types of disasters were provided, along with the need for proactive measures to be taken in these situations. Citizens were encouraged to play a pivotal role in disaster awareness and preparedness. Shri M. Sujata Dhole and Shri Vijaykumar Mhasal actively took part in the commitment ceremony along with other municipal officials and employees.
Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation’s Intermediate Disaster Control Room serves as a regional disaster management center for Mumbai, Thane, and Raigad districts, operating 24/7 to address disaster-related challenges.
On the occasion of the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation aims to work towards achieving the objectives set by the National Disaster Management Authority in New Delhi. They have pledged to create mass awareness regarding disaster preparedness and to provide information about disaster-related issues through public awareness campaigns. Additionally, practical training sessions, including disaster response training, were organized during the event.
This event emphasized the importance of citizens’ active participation in disaster preparedness, ensuring that everyone has the knowledge and resources to mitigate the impact of disasters, whether natural or human-made.
