Mira Bhayandar :- In a remarkable collaborative effort, the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation and the New Mira Bhayandar Rickshaw Owners Union organized a special meeting titled “Dialogue on Cleanliness” on October 11, 2023. The event was presided over by Mr. Sanjay Shreepatrav Katkar, IAS, the Commissioner of the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation.
The meeting saw the enthusiastic participation of various key officials, including Mr. Aniket Manorikar, IAS, Mr. Sambhaji Panpatte, IAS, Ms. Maruti Gayakwad, IAS (Head Office), Mr. Sanjay Shinde, IAS, and Mr. Ravi Pawar, IAS, among others. Additionally, Mr. Dipak Khambit, the City Engineer, and former councilor Juber Inamdar, as well as representatives of the Rickshaw Owners Union, municipal employees, and a significant number of rickshaw operators, attended the gathering.
Addressing the audience, Mr. Katkar emphasized the role that rickshaw operators can play in enhancing the cleanliness of Mira Bhayandar. He highlighted common issues such as littering from moving rickshaws, spitting betel nut or tobacco, and discarding cigarette butts on the streets, stressing that such unclean practices are witnessed daily by rickshaw passengers.
Mr. Katkar proposed that rickshaw drivers, who are an integral part of the city’s daily life, can contribute significantly to maintaining cleanliness in the city. He encouraged them to take the initiative to ensure a cleaner environment. Furthermore, he suggested that rickshaw drivers can educate passengers about the importance of cleanliness and even participate in awareness campaigns.
The Commissioner also announced plans to introduce smaller garbage bins specifically designed for rickshaws, making it easier for drivers to dispose of waste responsibly. This proactive step would encourage rickshaw operators to play a more active role in keeping the city clean and beautiful.
Mr. Katkar also extended an invitation to all citizens of Mira Bhayandar, not just rickshaw operators, to be vigilant about cleanliness and collaborate with the Municipal Corporation to transform the city into a cleaner and more attractive place to live.
The collaboration between the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation and the Rickshaw Owners Union is a significant step towards improving cleanliness and hygiene in the city, and it highlights the importance of community participation in such initiatives.
