New Delhi :- In a recent development during the Asia Cup, India’s cricket captain, Rohit Sharma, made a bold strategic move by opting for five changes in the playing XI during the final Super Four game against Bangladesh. Despite India’s secured spot in the final on Sunday, Sharma’s decision had a clear objective – to give valuable game time to players while keeping an eye on the bigger picture.
The match against Bangladesh held limited significance in the larger context, but it provided a crucial platform for newcomers, including Tilak Varma and middle-order reserve batsman Suryakumar Yadav, to showcase their abilities. Regrettably, they couldn’t make a significant impact on the game.
Speaking about his decision, Rohit Sharma stated, “We wanted to give some game time to the guys, keeping the bigger picture in mind. Not compromising on how we wanted to play this game. We wanted to get in some players who are likely to play the World Cup.”

Rohit Sharma also had words of admiration for Shubman Gill, who delivered a brilliant century. He highlighted Gill’s consistency and strong mindset, mentioning, “Gill’s hundred was brilliant. He backs his game, he knows exactly how he wants to play. Pretty clear on what he wants to do for the team. Look at his form over the last year (average of 72). He has been pretty solid against the new ball. He works really hard.”
