Navi Mumbai :- In a bid to bolster revenue collection efforts, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has appointed an additional commissioner, Ms. Sujata Dhole, to oversee property tax recovery. Property tax stands as a primary source of revenue for the municipality, facilitating the provision of civic services to residents within its jurisdiction. Hence, the Municipal Commissioner, Mr. Rajesh Narvekar, is placing great emphasis on efficient tax recovery.
Under this directive, Ms. Sujata Dhole, the Additional Commissioner, held a special meeting with officials and employees of the Property Tax Department. She issued clear instructions to streamline tax collection efforts, ensuring prompt action against any delinquent employees. Any irregularities in their work, as observed during their duties, will be reported to the Municipal Commissioner for appropriate administrative action.
Employees were reminded that their contributions are integral to the city’s development, with property tax playing a crucial role in funding various initiatives. Ms. Dhole stressed that negligence in carrying out duties will not be tolerated and urged everyone to work diligently.
In the current fiscal year, the municipal authorities have set an ambitious target of ₹800 crore for property tax collection. Consequently, the Property Tax Department is keen on recovering outstanding dues, with a particular focus on high-value delinquent accounts. A comprehensive list of such accounts is being prepared, and priority will be given to recovering from them in the initial stages.
Until September 15, 2023, property tax collection has amounted to ₹235 crore. In light of this, the department is ramping up efforts to recover overdue payments, especially from residents in the MMRDA region. Additionally, Ms. Dhole has directed the centralization of efforts for the recovery of outstanding dues in the MMRDA region under the guidance of the Additional Commissioner.
The Property Tax Department holds a critical role within the municipal structure, and employees are encouraged to utilize their full potential to meet the goals set by the Municipal Corporation. Ms. Sujata Dhole has called for a weekly performance assessment to ensure that every employee is contributing effectively.
In this endeavor, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation aims to boost revenue collection and provide better services to its residents while maintaining transparency and accountability.
