Navi Mumbai :- In a bid to ensure a seamless electoral process, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation held a special meeting on September 13, 2023, to discuss the Special Brief Revision Program of the Electoral Roll for 2024. This meeting, held at the Knowledge Center at Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation Headquarters, aimed to inform officials and expedite the crucial process of updating the voter list.
Highlighting the significance of maintaining an accurate voter list, Navi Mumbai Municipal Commissioner Shri. Rajesh Narvekar stressed that it is the cornerstone of smooth and fair elections. He emphasized the importance of carefully adding new addresses to the voter list and updating existing ones.
The initiative aligns with the directives of the Honorable Election Commission of India and the State Election Commission of Maharashtra. The special brief revision program aims to refine the electoral roll and enhance its accuracy.
During the meeting, Commissioner Shri. Rajesh Narvekar provided guidance to the dedicated officials of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation responsible for election matters. Notable attendees included Additional Commissioner Shri. Vijayakumar Mhasal, Belapur Vidhan Sabha Electoral Registration Officer Shri. Sambhaji Adkune, Airoli Vidhan Sabha Electoral Registration Officer Shri. Anjali Pawar, Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation Deputy Election Commissioner Shri Sharad Pawar, and other esteemed dignitaries.
Commissioner Shri. Rajesh Narvekar underscored the pivotal role of Polling Center Level Officers (BLOs) in maintaining the integrity of the voter list, emphasizing that they are the crucial link between the Election Commission and the voters. He praised the collaborative efforts between Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation and the Collector’s Office, which have led to the deployment of maximum BLOs.
Additionally, Commissioner Shri. Narvekar urged caution in the process of excluding any voter’s name, emphasizing the challenging nature of BLO work, which requires accommodating citizens’ diverse schedules.
In line with instructions from the State Election Commission, strict scrutiny of the voter list was emphasized to ensure its accuracy.
Commissioner Shri. Rajesh Narvekar revealed that Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation is actively reaching out to citizens through various means, including advertisement boards, banners, stands, murals, social media, and public awareness campaigns during Ganeshotsav and Navratri festivals.
Belapur Vidhan Sabha Electoral Registration Officer Shri. Sambhaji Adkune lauded Navi Mumbai’s pioneering effort in hosting a special meeting for the brief revision program. He underscored the need for strict adherence to commission instructions while ensuring no voter’s name is omitted from the list.
Furthermore, it was announced that a comprehensive verification of polling station locations has commenced alongside the voter list revision.
