International Day of Clean Air for Blue Sky Celebrated with Enthusiasm in Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation Area

Navi Mumbai, India :– September 7th marked the global observance of the ‘International Day of Clean Air for Blue Sky,’ as recognized by the United Nations. Under the guidance of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation Commissioner, Mr. Rajesh Narvekar, this important day was celebrated with fervor and dedication in all eight departmental office areas.

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, in alignment with the National Clean Air Programme, has developed and initiated the Navi Mumbai City Clean Air Action Plan. Commissioner Narvekar’s visionary leadership has set the plan into motion, aimed at combating air pollution and enhancing environmental quality.

In a recent review meeting, Commissioner Narvekar emphasized the importance of organizing various programs to mark the International Clean Air Day on September 7. In response, City Engineer Shri Sanjay Desai, along with Additional City Engineer and Nodal Officer, Shri. Shirish Aardwad, orchestrated an array of cleanliness campaigns and public awareness initiatives. These efforts were carried out under the leadership of assistant commissioners and department officers across all eight divisional office areas.

At various municipal sites, including department offices, environment laboratories, fire stations, and solid waste management project sites, a collective pledge was taken to combat air pollution and prioritize environmental conservation. The participation was not limited to municipal officials and employees but also extended to sanitation workers, local NGOs, and environmentally conscious citizens who wholeheartedly joined in the activities.

To further raise awareness, public awareness boards were strategically placed throughout the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation area. These boards encourage citizens to opt for public transport, electric or CNG vehicles, regular vehicle emissions checks, and maximize the use of public cycle and e-bike sharing systems. Additionally, residents were urged to support the Municipal Corporation’s C&D waste project and embrace clean fuels, tree planting, and renewable energy sources.

Commissioner Narvekar expressed his sincere appeal to the citizens of Navi Mumbai, encouraging them to actively participate in these initiatives with a strong commitment to environmental stewardship. As the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation continues to implement projects aimed at improving air quality, it is the collective responsibility of all residents to contribute to a cleaner and healthier environment for themselves and future generations.
