Navi Mumbai, August 25, 2023:- In a decisive move towards environmental conservation, the Airoli Division in Navi Mumbai recently imposed fines on six businessmen for violating regulations regarding the use of plastic bags. The crackdown comes as part of a broader effort to combat the detrimental impact of single-use plastics on the environment. The fines totaling Rs. 30,000 were levied as a stern reminder of the urgent need to transition away from plastic use.
Under the guidance of Namumpa Commissioner Shri Rajesh Narvekar, the municipal authorities have embarked on a mission to raise public awareness about the hazards of plastic waste. The initiative encourages citizens to abandon plastic bags in favor of eco-friendly alternatives like cloth and paper bags.
Leading the preventive strike action in Circle-2, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Shriram Pawar of Airoli division, along with Commissioner and Department Officer Shri Mahendra Sapre, orchestrated the successful enforcement. The teams conducted surprise inspections in Sector 3, Sector 19, and Sector 20 of the Airoli area, revealing that six shopkeepers were still using plastic bags and restricted plastic.
The targeted businesses, including Typical Malvani, Shiv Uphagarhi, Shreeganesh Ahar Kendra at Sector 3, Shankar Fast Food at Sector 20, Anjali Snacks Center, and Majisa Decorators at Sector 19, were slapped with penalties amounting to Rs. 5,000 each. As a result of the rigorous efforts led by Assistant Commissioner and Divisional Officer Shri Mahendra Sapre, Superintendent / Recovery Officer Shri Krishna Khairnar, Senior Clerk / Tax Inspector Shri Ganesh Jagle, Clerk Shri Kalpesh Patil, and Sanitation Inspector Mr. Nitin Mahale, along with the officers, employees, and security guards of G Division Airoli Division, the fines were swiftly recovered.
This targeted approach by the Airoli Division not only emphasizes the importance of adhering to anti-plastic regulations but also underscores the commitment of municipal authorities to creating a sustainable and environmentally conscious community.
