Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation Launches Innovative Independence Day Initiative to Amplify City Cleanliness

Navi Mumbai, 15th August 2023 :- In a bid to further enhance the clean city image of Navi Mumbai, the Municipal Corporation has introduced a fresh approach to city cleanliness. Commissioner Shri Rajesh Narvekar unveiled this novel concept during a special event commemorating Independence Day. The initiative emphasizes the active participation of municipal officials, employees, sanitation workers, public representatives, media, and citizens to maintain the city’s reputation as a clean and hygienic urban center.

The concept centers around officials and employees taking personal responsibility for cleanliness. They are urged to focus on the upkeep of both their own living quarters and the surroundings of their residences. By doing so, they aspire to become valuable contributors to the city’s cleanliness. Shri Rajesh Narvekar, the Commissioner of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, presented this vision in an interactive session with citizens through Facebook Live.

During the event, Additional Commissioner Shri Sujata Dhole, Deputy Commissioner of Solid Waste Management and Disaster Management Department Shri Vijay Kumar Mhasal, and various department heads, officers, employees, and citizens were present. The Commissioner recognized the remarkable performance of the municipal officers and employees, which has elevated the reputation of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation. He underscored that this excellence has raised expectations and responsibilities as well.

The Commissioner also introduced the idea of recording employees’ cleanliness efforts in their performance evaluations, thus reinforcing the importance of their contributions. Furthermore, in an effort to encourage innovation, a suggestion box will be placed at the Municipal Corporation headquarters. This box will be a platform for employees and citizens to submit their novel concepts related to cleanliness.

Shri Rajesh Narvekar urged citizens to dedicate a few minutes of their daily routines to cleanliness. This could include practices like sorting different types of garbage at home, alleviating the workload of sanitation workers. He emphasized that citizen participation is a cornerstone of the city’s strength. The Commissioner also highlighted ongoing initiatives like ‘R on Wheels,’ ‘Recycle Mart,’ ‘Recycle Bazaar,’ and the ‘Tertiary Treatment Plant,’ which are set to expand in the future.

The event also featured accolades for exceptional performances. The Belapur Division received recognition for being the best performing department in the ‘Swachh Manthan 3.0’ cleanliness competition. Honors were extended to disaster relief teams, firefighters, and cleanliness supervisors who have played pivotal roles in ensuring the city’s tidiness.

A cultural segment added vibrancy to the event, featuring patriotic songs and performances by students and artists. As part of the National Tobacco Control Program, a collective oath of tobacco freedom was taken on the occasion of Independence Day.

In conclusion, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation’s new cleanliness initiative underscores the commitment of officials, employees, and citizens to maintaining the city’s pristine image. This collaborative approach is set to reinforce Navi Mumbai’s status as a model clean city across the nation.
