Maharashtra Government Declares Local Holiday for Gopalkala (Dahihandi) and Anant Chaturdashi Celebrations

Mumbai :- The Maharashtra state government has officially announced a local holiday in Mumbai and Mumbai Suburban District on the occasion of Gopalkala (Dahihandi) and Anant Chaturdashi. The declaration comes in line with a circular issued by the General Administration Department, bearing reference number Sarvasu-1122/P.No.117/29, dated December 12, 2022.

According to the circular, the tradition of declaring a local holiday for Anant Chaturdashi has been in place since September 18, 1996, for government and semi-government offices in Mumbai City and Mumbai Suburban District. Additionally, since 2007, a local holiday has been declared for the celebration of Gopalkala (Dahihandi) as well.

In line with this tradition, the Maharashtra government has announced a local holiday for all government and semi-government offices in Mumbai and Mumbai Suburban District for the year 2023. The holiday schedule is as follows:

1. Gopalkala (Dahihandi)
   – Date: September 07, 2023
   – Indian Solar Date: 16 Bhadrapad Shaka 1945
   – Day: Thursday

2. Anant Chaturdashi
   – Date: September 28, 2023
   – Indian Solar Date: 06 Ashwin Shaka 1945

The circular highlights that this order is applicable exclusively to state government and semi-government offices in Mumbai City and Mumbai Suburban District. The decision to declare these local holidays was made in accordance with Government Decision No. P&S. No. P- 13/ ॥/B, dated November 5, 1958.
