An innovative concept of a clean Navi Mumbai’s underground landfill

Navi Mumbai : After being ranked third among the cleanest cities in the country in the ‘Clean Survey 2020’ under the ‘Clean India Mission’, now the decision has been taken by the Municipal Commissioner Shri. Abhijeet Bangar expressed that the process of ‘Clean Survey 2021’ has been started from Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti.

Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has always implemented various innovative concepts. It has also undertaken remarkable activities every year in connection with the sanitation campaign. L&T Seawood Limited, a hygienic venture similar to the same type of underground garbage. The CSR fund of this company has been piloted in two places at Karavegaon. An underground landfill has been set up near Shribamandev Bhuyari Marg along Palmbeach Marg and near Shriganesha Lake. Dedicated to Additional Commissioner Mrs. Sujata Dhole’s auspicious hand . Deputy Commissioner of Solid Waste Management Dr. Babasaheb Rajale, Assistant Commissioner Shri. Chandrakant Tayde, former corporator Shri. Vinod Mhatre, L&T Company Project Head Shri. Akash Khatri, Shri. Abhay Kamathankar, Shri. Bhavesh Sejpal, Shri. Akhil Palherkar and other dignitaries were present.

In the city of Navi Mumbai, which has the reputation of being a clean, beautiful city, the landfills have to be placed in a densely populated area to suit the beautification of the city and add to the cleanliness of the city. What is special is that the area around this garbage dump is decorated with ornamental flowers.

This underground landfill has two parts, wet waste and dry waste. Therefore, the garbage falls into the underground bin without being seen and the foul smelling atmosphere is generally avoided. It has separate waste bins of 1.1 cubic meters for wet and dry waste. After the arrival of Refuse Compactor for transporting waste, these waste will be brought to the underground waste by hydraulic system and the waste will be transported through the to the ground and removing the garbage from it and putting them back in place is being done on the battery of the refuse compactor.

This innovative concept of underground landfill, which is being implemented with the CSR fund of L&T Company, is in line with the reputation of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation. Expressing gratitude to the group, Additional Commissioner Shri. Sujata Dhole expressed this on the occasion
